Range of an EV

We know what you’re thinking. Going all-electric sounds nice, but how far can you go on a charge? The answer… pretty far.

Most EVs on the market today have a range of well over 100 miles per charge, with some models reaching over 300 miles per charge. Did you know that 78% of all commuters in the U.S. drive less than 40 miles per day? This means you could go at least a few days without recharging your EV. And when you do, it can be done from home.

Types of EV Chargers

There are three main types of chargers for EVs:

AC Level 1

This charger charges an EV through a normal 120 volt plug and doesn’t need any additional charging equipment. A Level 1 charger isn’t particularly fast though. It only delivers about two to five miles of range per hour of charging, so it can take a day to get to a full charge.

AC Level 2

This charger charges an EV through a 240 volt plug and needs additional charging equipment to be installed by a qualified electrician. This charger can deliver 10 to 60 miles of range per hour of charging, making it a popular charging option.

DC Fast-Charge

This charger charges an EV through a 480 volt plug and requires specialized, high-powered charging equipment and special equipment in the vehicle itself. If you couldn’t tell by the name, a DC Fast-Charge can deliver 60 to 100 miles of range in about 20-30 minutes of charging.
